Admissions

Who Should Apply
The WJC is designed for sophomores and juniors. A serious Christian commitment and a strong academic record are required. While the WJC is open to students from a wide range of majors, the program is most beneficial to students passionate about journalism and interested in pursuing work within that field. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, regardless of major. The program gives priority for acceptance to qualified full-time students earning credit toward their degree from a Council member college. The WJC may, however, accept any exceptional student believed able to meet the rigorous demands of the program, and students from Council campuses are given priority above all others. When non-Council students are admitted (space permitting), an additional $200 is charged for participation.
How to Apply
To participate in the program, students must submit these application materials:
- a completed online application form
- a faculty reference (online)
- a student affairs reference (online)
- a certification form
- a portfolio of five hard-news clips (uploaded to online application)
- an official transcript for all college course work
- a $50 application fee (non-refundable)
Upon admission, participation is confirmed by submitting a $300 non-refundable deposit, which secures your space and is credited toward your room fees at the time of billing. A space in the program cannot be assured unless the Washington Journalism Center receives the confirmation fee within 15 days of the notification of acceptance.
