Before meeting with your tutor again, you need to read a theological tract, peruse several commentaries, write a paper, read Richard III, work on your term paper and attend three practices for a choir concert this weekend. Scheduling isn't the only challenge you'll face in Oxford. But at the same time, you'll be exhilarated by the doors you have opened. And as each week goes by, you'll be more and more eager for the tests to come.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants to The Scholars' Semester in Oxford (SSO) should be in their junior or senior year. The Oxford tutorial style is very different from the North American system of education; many students find this a stimulating and challenging transition, requiring experience and maturity. The programme is designed to be academically rigorous. Students are generally members of an Honors Program. High-achieving, academically-gifted students are also encouraged to apply. Due to the intense academic environment of Oxford, students with GPAs below 3.5 cannot be considered.
Please Note: The tutorials, lectures and seminars are equivalent to upper-division courses. Students are expected to do advanced level work and therefore need to have sufficient preparation for the concentration chosen. These are not intended to serve as an introduction to a subject area, rather they demand scholarship of a more advanced nature.
