In thinking through how to offer professional development opportunities to CCCU facuty and staff who have an interest in the CMC, we are proposing two models for the visit. *
Model 1 :
The focus of this visit would be on providing faculty and staff with the space and equipment necessary for developing their musical talent. In essence, it would be a time of personal and/or professional development for those who have an interest in the music field. We would begin the faculty visit by offering core classes and workshops (including lectures from the CMC faculty, guest speakers, and discussions) on topics such as songwriting, musical performance, and digital recording technique, while interspersing them with contemplative/creative space and opportunities for individual practice, collaboration with other musicians, and performances.
Model 2 :
The second model for the faculty visit to CMC would involve offering a “how to” workshop on building and developing a contemporary music curriculum. The first few days would comprise core classes on topics such as the state of the music industry and current trends in music marketing. Then, participants could focus on building two separate tracks, one geared toward artists and the other toward executives, within a contemporary music curriculum.
Based on the two models above, would you have any interest in coming to Martha's Vineyard to learn in this unique environment?
If so, which of the above models is most appealing to you? Model 1 Model 2 If you selected Model 1, which aspects are the most appealing to you? The time to work on my musical craft (contemplative/creative space and practice opportunities) Studio recording time Learning through lectures/discussions with the CMC faculty and guest speakers Songwriter’s workshop Music performance workshop Workshop on digital recording technique The possibility of collaboration with other musicians The opportunity to perform in front of my peers and receive their feedback If you selected Model 1, would you have any interest in engaging in curricular discussions toward the end of the visit? If you selected Model 2, which aspects are the most appealing to you? Receiving an introduction to building and developing a contemporary music curriculum Classes on the state of the music industry Classes on the current trends in music marketing Focused attention on building a music curriculum geared toward artists Focused attention on building a music curriculum geared toward executives Time to work independently on curricular development Consultation time with the CMC faculty Brainstorming and discussing curricular issues with colleagues from across the CCCU If you selected Model 2, would you have any interest in spending time working on your own musical development toward the end of the visit? Do you have other suggestions for what would make one of the above models (or another model altogether) an appealing option for CCCU faculty and staff? (Feel free to be broad or specific in your response.)
Which formats for learning (within this faculty/staff visit context) are the most appealing to you? Core classes Lectures Workshops Panel discussions Presentations by experts in the field Presentations by faculty/staff participants Individual practice sessions One-on-one evaluation sessions Live performances What would be the ideal length of time for a faculty visit to the CMC? 3-4 days 5-6 days 7-8 days 9-10 days Because of the schedule of the Contemporary Music Center, the only time we could accommodate a study tour would be in mid to late May 2008. During May 11-31, when is the most ideal time for you? When during the timeframe of May 11-31 would it be impossible for you to attend? If the approximate cost for a faculty visit to the Contemporary Music Center would be $2,000-3,000, could you get assistance from your home campus and/or absorb the personal costs to attend? Do you have a colleague who might be interested in this faculty visit? If so, please forward this email (with survey) to him or her and list his/her name and contact information below: Your name: Your college/university: Your email address: * Required
