2006 Photo & Video Entry Categories:

1. Emotion  Images in this category will have captured the essence of a moment of accomplishment, surprise, triumph, discovery, etc.
2. Local Life  Images in this category will speak about the uniquenesses of the location you studied, communicating the human charm or natural beauty of where your semester took place.  (Photos and films that show program participants interacting with locals will be given priority for prizes.)
3. Community  Images in this category will illustrate the interaction of program participants with one another, the surrounding city, neighborhood, church or marketplace.
   
   It is not required that videos feature a story line or have dialogue or music.  The footage needs to demonstrate one of the elements above to be considered.

1. Participants from spring 2005, summer 2005, fall 2005, spring 2006, summer 2006 and/or fall 2006 BestSemester programs are eligible for prizes.  (Though participants of any semester are welcome to donate photos and videos!)
2. All entries must be received by Monday, December 4, 2006 (5:00pm EST).
3. All entries must be the original property of the person submitting the photo or video.
4. Each photo must have been taken while on the BestSemester program; all video footage must have been shot while on the BestSemester program.
5. To the extent that it is feasible, you should secure the permission of people included in your photo(s) and/or video(s) to use their image for this contest (and possible use in BestSemester/CCCU publications).
6. By submitting each photo and/or video, you authorize BestSemester/the CCCU to use the image or video in electronic or print publications.
7. Entries may not be submitted to other contests or purposes that would restrict permission of BestSemester/the CCCU to use your photo or video.
8. Entries may be in black and white, although color is preferred.
9. There is no limit to the number of entries per person, but no person may win more than one prize per medium (once for photo and once for video).
10. Photos must be submitted digitally as a TIFF, EPS or JPEG using the Entry Form, and must be printable at 8 x10" at 300 dpi.
11. Videos may be submitted by providing a link in the Entry Form to a web location of the video, or by mailing a DVD to BestSemester Video Contest c/o Amber Palmer, Office of Student Programs, 321 8th St. NE, Washington DC, 20002.
12. Videos must be five minutes or less and cannot include any copyrighted songs or other copyrighted materials.
13. DVDs must be received by the contest deadline and will not be returned.
14. Each entry must be submitted on a separate Entry Form.
15. Contest winners will be announced on Friday, December 15, 2006 with prize checks to be mailed shortly thereafter.  (Christmas money!)

A total of 14 prizes and will be awarded!  There will be one entry chosen from each type of medium (photo and video) to receive a Grand Prize.  In addition there will be prizes for 1st & 2nd place in each category (Emotion, Local Life and Community) for each medium (photo and video).

 

Grand Prize: $500 (2 total prizes)

Category Winner: $200 (6 total prizes)

Category 2nd Place: $100 (6 total prizes)
