Recent BestSemester alumni are encouraged to submit photos and videos from their off-campus semester to the 2006 Photo & Video Contest.  One photo and one video will be awarded the grand prizes of $500.  Additionally, each category winner will receive $200 and the category’s second place winner will receive $100.  The categories are Emotion, Local Life and Community.  Photos and videos in the Emotion category will have captured the essence of a moment of accomplishment, surprise, triumph, discovery, etc.  The Local Life category will feature photos and videos that demonstrated the unique surroundings of the location studied, communicating the human charm or natural beauty evident throughout the semester.  (Photos and films that show program participants interacting with locals will be given priority for prizes.)  Images in the Community category will illustrate the interaction of program participants with one another, the surrounding city, neighborhood, church or marketplace. 

 

Each photo must have been taken while on the BestSemester program.  While all video footage must have been filmed while attending a BestSemester program, it is not required that videos feature a story line or include dialogue or music.  The footage needs to demonstrate one of the contest categories to be considered.  Photos and videos may be in black and white, but color is preferred.  Photos must be submitted digitally as a TIFF, EPS or JPEG using the Entry Form, and must be printable at 8 x10" at 300 dpi.  Videos may be submitted by providing a link in the Entry Form to a web location of the video, or by mailing a DVD to BestSemester Video Contest c/o Amber Palmer, Office of Student Programs, 321 8th St. NE, Washington DC, 20002.  Videos must be five minutes or less and cannot include any copyrighted songs or other copyrighted materials.  By submitting each photo and/or video, participants authorize BestSemester/the CCCU to use the image or video in electronic and/or print publications.

 

Participants from spring 2005, summer 2005, fall 2005, spring 2006, summer 2006 and/or fall 2006 BestSemester programs are eligible for prizes.  All entries must be received by Monday, December 4, 2006 (5:00pm EST).  Contest winners will be announced on Friday, December 15, 2006 with prize checks to be mailed shortly thereafter.  To read the full rules and submit a photo or video, go to www.bestsemester.com/2006contestguidelines.
