From Hong Kong to Shanghai, you will see skyscrapers and businesses that boast of China's rapidly growing place in the global economy. But historical roots run deep. The Chinese will tell you that the future does not escape the past. Risk your present reality. Come explore China's past and better understand her future standing in the world.
find out moreThe majority of your classes are taught by Chinese professors. Jay Lundelius [PhD, University of Illinois] directs the program, teaches Intercultural Communication, and oversees all academic aspects of the program, and guides students who take Eastern Philosophy & Religions. The program assistant is Yili Lundelius. She handles most of the interaction with our Chinese sponsors and facilitators. She also oversees internships for students in the Business Concentration and teaches in the 3-credit elective, Dimensions of Culture. Every semester there is usually at least one student intern-a program alumni who assists the director in CSP-related activities, living with the students in their dorm and helping them adjust to life in China.
find out moreTypically, students live in an international student dorm on campus: usually two students per room that's equipped with a bathroom, T.V., air conditioning, and (limited access) phones. We encourage students to make friends with Chinese students on campus (males with males, females with females). Chinese are unusually hospitable, and your friends are likely to invite you to join them for meals, afternoon trips, or even weekends at their parents' home. Many CSP students have made long-lasting friendships this way; they also begin to see China through Chinese eyes.
find out moreAre you ready for an adventure? You will never be the same after your semester in China. From the first time you eat a fish's eyeball to your teary goodbye with Chinese friends, you will feel yourself changing in ways you never dreamed possible. Classes, travels and discussions help you process what you encounter. It's reorienting your priorities, reexamining much of what you believe and reaffirming your priorities in a crazy, mixed up, upside down world. Are you ready to give it a try?
