Professional Development Study Tour: Uganda 2010

 

"Experiencing Uganda and Rwanda: An Encounter with Contemporary East African Issues"

The primary location for the 2010 Professional Development Study Tour will be Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda. Participants will have a short-term immersion experience based on the activities, methods and objectives of the Uganda Studies Program.  Participants will also spend three days/nights in Rwanda with additional trips offered to Kampala, Jinja (the source of the Nile), and rural Uganda.

Themes that will be explored during this study tour include:

  • HIV/AIDS in Uganda today
  • Reconciliation and forgiveness in post-genocide Rwanda
  • Missions in an evangelized country
  • Christian liberal arts in the African context

Tour end date:  June 1, 2010

**Please note these dates do not reflect travel to and from Uganda.

Fee: 

The total on-the-ground cost for this study tour is approximately $1800.00 USD.  This includes program fees, room/board, and transportation between Uganda and Rwanda.  It does not include international flights to and from Uganda or additional optional trips offered (Safari, Gorilla Trek, Jinja).  Participants will be responsible for arranging their own flights and paying for these flights separately.  We will provide our preferred travel vendor information to you by request.

Application Deadline:

We are excited to present this program to faculty and staff.  Because we are mindful that quality short-term study tours are best in smaller groups, space is limited.  Selection of participants will be made by the director of the program based on submitted applications.  Please feel free to forward this information to all faculty and staff on your campus.

The 12 semester- or summer-long student programs offered by the CCCU are categorized as either culture-shaping programs or culture-crossing programs. Culture-shaping programs are: American Studies Program (Washington, D.C.); Contemporary Music Center (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.); Los Angeles Film Studies Center (L.A., Calif.); and Washington Journalism Center (Washington, D.C.). Included in the culture-crossing programs are: Australia Studies Centre; China Studies Program; Latin American Studies Program; Middle East Studies Program; Programmes in Oxford; Russian Studies Program; and Uganda Studies Program. All programs undergo regular site visit evaluations by the Student Academic Programs Commission (SAPC).

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of 182 intentionally Christ-centered institutions around the world.
